No winter night celebration would be complete without the nostalgic taste of chocolate apples, and with the I6456C induction hob it has never been easier to make them! Heating up twice as fast as the traditional gas hob, theres no excuse for waiting around this festive season. With a range of features, the I6456C is perfect for using with the little ones and with Automatic pan detection the hob will be ready as soon as you are!
This recipe is so simple that it can enjoyed by the whole family, but we know sometimes the little cooks can be a bit too eager. When those little hands want to touch all the chocolate, it can be easy for accidents to occur. However, the I6456C only heats up the induction specific pan meaning the surrounding areas are not hot. Features Child Lock can give you some extra piece of mind too when trying to keep an eye on those ‘helpful’ hands.
200g milk chocolate, finely chopped
4 small eating apples
sugar strands, finely chopped nuts, sprinkles, honeycomb pieces (whatever toppings tickle your fancy)
50g of each white and dark chocolate, chopped (optional)
4 skewers, wooden chopsticks or large lolly sticks
Begin by placing the chocolate in a heatproof bowl and position it over a pan of gently simmering water, making sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Stir the chocolate regularly for about 10 minutes until it is completely melted, smooth, and glossy. Remove it from the heat. Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate in the microwave by heating it in short bursts, stirring in between until it’s melted. If you want total ease though, the I6456C comes with Soft Melt, which is perfect for ensuring you don’t burn that precious chocolate by maintaining a constant temperature of 42 degrees. This way you can melt the chocolate straight in the pan without having to worry about complicated setups. Touch and Swipe will also give you full control on the temperature, so you can determine what you need to best achieve that ooey gooey deliciousness.
For the second step, put the apples in a heatproof bowl and pour boiling water from the kettle over them. Drain the apples carefully and rinse them under hot water to remove any residual wax from the skin. This will help the chocolate adhere better to the apples. Pat the apples dry with kitchen paper, remove the stalks, and insert a lolly stick or skewer in their place.
Next, line a baking tray or a large board with parchment paper. Hold the apples by their sticks and dip them into the melted chocolate. You can use a spoon to coat the tops of the apples if you prefer. After completely coating the apples, hold them over the bowl for a few seconds to allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl. Then, place them on the prepared tray with the stick pointing upward and let them set for a minute or two.
Transfer the decorations into separate bowls. When the chocolate on the apples is just beginning to set but not fully firm, sprinkle the decorations onto the apples. Tilt the apples on their sides and rotate them using the stick to ensure complete coverage. Place them back on the tray and let them set completely.
If you plan to use white and dark chocolate for decorating, heat each type separately as you did with the milk chocolate in step 1, and allow them to cool slightly. The I6456C includes fantastic temperature adjustment features such as Press and Go, which allow you to pause the hob for 10 minutes before it automatically turns back on with the most recent setting already enabled. Perfect for when you need to focus on the apples first coating but want the extra chocolate ready to go straight after. Start by melting the dark chocolate, and when the chocolate on the apples has hardened, use a teaspoon to drizzle the dark chocolate over them. Again, hold the apple on its side and rotate it while drizzling. Have a sheet of parchment paper underneath to catch any drips.
Place the apples back on the tray and let them set, then repeat the process using the white chocolate. These chocolate-coated apples will stay fresh in an airtight container in a cool place for up to two days.
