Lifting the curse
1971
Don Revie

Don Revie was a hugely talented manager, but also deeply superstitious. After a prolonged bad run, Revie convinced himself that Elland Road was cursed. He believed that a group of gypsies were angry about being forced to move off the scrubland where the stadium was built in the 1890s, and they had placed a hex on it before they left.

So in 1971, after a run of bad results, the manager invited a fortune teller called Gypsy Rose Lee, who lived in Blackpool, to travel to Elland Road. According to various accounts, she walked onto the pitch, scratched the grass and threw some seeds down. She then walked to all four corners of the pitch and did the same, before telling Revie, over a cup of tea, that the curse had been lifted.

2002
James Milner

The second youngest player to turn in out in the Premier League in November 2002 and on Boxing Day that year became the competition’s youngest-ever scorer at 16 years and 356 days when he netted against Sunderland. And two days after that, he provided one of the highlights of his all-too-brief Leeds United career, when he netted a sublime goal against Chelsea at Elland Road.

2019
Pablo Hernandez

The Spanish striker score a spectacular goal for Leeds in their league clash against Albion on March 1st, 2019. Hernandez’s goal against Albion came in the 1st minute- 16 seconds to be precise, as Leeds scored from the first attacking move immediately after kick off. Leeds won the game 4-0.

As Leeds United prepares for a full capacity crowd at Elland Road for the first time since March 2020, the BBC and Hisense have their own special welcomes. Club sponsor, Hisense, has unveiled a United At Home mural outside the stadium. Created on the corner of Wesley Street and Hoxton Mount it shows the team lined up in front of the stands.

“We’re going into our second season as a sponsor of this great club, and we were keen to do our bit in making sure the welcome back to Elland Road is as special for the fans as possible,” explained Arun Bhatoye, Head of Marketing at Hisense UK.
