If you’re hosting a carnival celebration or fancy-dress party this season, we suggest baking something even better than jam-filled doughnuts. This homemade baked Carnival’s treat is easy to make in the comfort of your own kitchen, even kids can do it. These strips of heaven also known as churros are crispy on the outside and buttery soft on the inside and loved by all.

INGREDIENTS

  • - 225 g water
  • - 120 g butter
  • - 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • - ¼ teaspoon salt
  • - 150 g plain flour
  • - 1 egg

In medium-sized pan over low heat combine 225 ml of water, 120 g of butter, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and ¼ tablespoon of salt. Bring to boil, then lower the heat and stir in 150 g flour and one egg. Mix everything together and cook for a few minutes. Remove the pan from heat and scoop dough into a pipping bag with star nozzle.

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Carefully pipe dough into churros on the pan, leaving some space between each churro. Bake the churros for about 20 minutes or until golden brown and then let them rest for 10 minutes. For more crunchy churros add steam while baking. If you don’t have an oven with steam program sprinkle them with some water before baking.

Enjoy the churros dipped in chocolate, you can serve them with some ice cream or cover them with mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Serve them warm and fresh, any leftovers you can save in airtight container at room temperature for three days.
